Date in Asia - Korea

Korea is a great place to date in Asia. There are many possibilities out there for western guys to find a good partner in the "Land of Morning Calm." While Korea might be known as the "Land of Morning Calm", it says nothing of the night time in cities like Seoul and Busan which are anything but calm. Nightlife in Korea is all about going out, drinking and having a good time; and, it is the exquisite way to meet a girl.

When I first came to Seoul two years ago, I had a preconception that Korea would be very primary and meeting Korean girls would be a bit of a problem. While sometimes that is the case, there are many more times the occasion to find a date. Korean women are for the most part very open to meeting a western guy. They have been watching American Tv their whole lives, and some have advanced preference and curiosity for western males.

Asia

The one distinct drawback is the language. Growing up, I'm guessing not many western guys from Canada and the Us had the occasion to learn Korean and will not know any upon arriving in the country. This will narrow the field slightly, but fear not, there is good news.

Date in Asia - Korea

Korea is growing fast, and so are the numbers of English speakers. Korean girls start learning English in elementary school and many of them have a firm grasp on the language by the time they are in their 20s. These women would love to get a occasion to custom their English. Even if they are not curious in dating you, more times than not, a friend of theirs would like to.

Aside from the general women population having decent English skills, there are distinct places in the city where English is very common and women going to these places are there because they like interacting with foreigners. It gets even better, women coming to these places typically speak fluently.

A third choice for men wanting to date in Korea is a bit trickier, but will pay off loads in the long run is learning to speak Korean! This is a lock and will give Korean speaking foreigners instant access to the whole population. While it will take a few months to begin to get a cope on the language, it's value cannot be overstated. learning to speak the local language is very inspiring to women!

The Climates of Asia

Asia is the biggest continent in the world. Due to its great size and extensive area which it covers from North to South and from East to West, a wide variety of climates exist. The climates of Asia can broadly be divided into following types:

The Equatorial Climate

Asia

This climate is found in areas placed very close to the equator. The climate is hot and humid all the year round with immoderate rainfall. There is no dry season and the rainfall is equally distributed in all months of the year. This type of climate is also called the climate of three eighties i.e., 80 F ( 27 C ) temperature throughout the year, 80 in (2000 mm) or more total annual rainfall and 80% relative humidity throughout the year. This type of climate is found in Indonesia and Malaysia.

The Climates of Asia

The Monsoon Climates

This type has a exact dry season and a exact wet season. The cooler season is dry while the hot season is very wet indeed. The best example is the monsoon of the Indian Sub-Continent. Mumbai for example records more than 2000mm (80 inches) of rain in a year but months from December to February are absolutely dry. While the summer season, warm and moist winds blow from the Indian ocean towards India which bring heavy rain. In the cooler months the wind direction is from the land towards the sea so the winds are drier and bring tiny or no rain. China also experiences this type of climate but the temperatures are cooler than those of Indian monsoon so it is called China type of monsoon.

The Desert Climates

These type of Climates are found in Central Asia, Saudi Arabia, Iran , North-West India and South-East Pakistan. Although the deserts of Central Asia like Gobi and Taklamakan lie surface the tropics , the immoderate heat they face in summer make them similar to the deserts of the lower latitudes. All deserts have the same characteristic features: very low rainfall and extremes of temperature. The rainfall is ordinarily les than 10 inches (250 mm ). The dissimilarity in the middle of the hottest and coldest month is great . At Luktchun 43 N 90 E in Central Asia mean temperature of the hottest month is 90 F ( 32.2 C ) which rather matches with the tropical deserts but the coldest month records 13 F ( -10.6 C) which is unthinkable in hotter deserts placed in Arabia etc.

The Middle Latitude Grassland Climates

This type of climate is found in the west of Central Asia where Asia meets with Europe at Ural Mountains and on the fringes of Mongolia. The summers are warm , the winters cold with moderate rainfall falling mostly in the summer months. The summer temperature ordinarily does not rise above 75 F ( 23 C ) but winters are quite cold with two to three months below 32 F ( 0 C ).

The Cold Temperate Climate

This type of climate is found at higher latitudes usually above 50 degrees North and have moderate to cool summers and very cold winters. Since these area are very far off from the around sea it has got extremes of temperature .The climate is so extreme that such type of extremes are not found everywhere else in the world. Typical example of this type of climate is Verkoyansk in Siberia which is placed at 68 degrees North and 133 East . The temperature for the month of July at this center is 60 F ( 16 C ) whereas the temperate for January is -58 F (-50 C ) - a range of 118 F! The precipitation is a moderate 14.7 inches (373 mm) and is mostly in the form of snow.

The Artic or Tundra Climate

This type of climate occurs in the extreme north of the continent near the North Pole. The climate is very cold all the year round and no month is above 43 F ( 6 C ) so no plantation or vegetation can survive. Only Eskimos who have adapted themselves to this sort of harsh climate can survive in this climatic zone. They have special type of houses made of snow locally called igloos to keep them warm.

The Mediterranean Climate

This type of climate with hot dry summers and cool wet winters occur in Turkey, Syria and along the coastal areas of Israel and Lebanon. Istanbul in Turkey is the best example . The hottest month records 74 F ( 23 C ) , the coolest 43 ( 6 C) . Total annual rainfall is 29 in ( 736 mm) of which 20 inches occurs from November to March and the summers are very dry absolutely .

This in short is a brief detail of different climatic zones found in the continent of Asia.

Clothing of Asia

Asia is the largest continent of the world with its 17,300,000 sq. Miles area. The continent comprises of a whole of countries and each country varies from the other in terms of its culture, habits, tradition and fashion. It will be a Herculean task, rather an impossible one to bring Asia and its culture under one roof. It is so vast and variegated that all the words of expression would fall short for it. So it will be wise adequate to incorporate on only one of the aspects at aimed, choosing only a few countries. When we think of Asia, the name of the countries lurk into our mind are Japan, India and China. So let us incorporate on the customary attires of these countries and find out how these customary wear are getting infiltrated into the contemporary fashion trend.

India: Being an Indian, I know Indian culture and tradition great than any other foreign country. So I would without fail like to talk about our customary clothing first. India is a country with as many as 29 states and each state has its own way of robes. But as far as the national dress is implicated it is identified with 'sari'. It is attire for women only. A 'sari' is nothing but a long rectangular piece of cloth about 5 to 9m in length. It is worn without any fastening, pins or buttons. The tightly fitted blouse worn under sari is known as 'choli' and the final distance of the saris hanging from the women's shoulder is called 'pallu'. The style, color, texture of a sari varies from one another. It may be printed, embroidered, stone and mirror embedded et al. The material of sari can be cotton, silk, artificial or man many more things. Besides its color and design, the most remarkable and charming feature about the sari is that it is not cut or tailored for any singular size and can fit any women. There are several ways of wearing a sari; and its manner of draping as well as its color and texture indicate the status, age, occupation, region and religion of a woman.

Asia

Beside sari, there are many other dresses that are worn by Indian women like 'salwar kameez', 'lehanga', churidar etc. A 'kameez' is a long tunic worn over 'pyjama' which is like a loose fitted trousers. A tight-fitted pant is known as 'churidar'.A pleated skirt is called a 'lehanga'. Some customary garments for men are 'kurta', 'lungi', 'dhoti' and 'pyjama'. 'kurta' is like a long top while 'lungi 'and 'dhoti' are apiece of cloth that is draped around the waist. 'pyjama'is the pants worn under the 'kurta'. A collarless khadi jacket is also beloved among men. But most of the India men, unlike women, wear the conventional western clothes. A majority of women in India wear 'sari' though some urban women love and feel comfortable in western dresses.

Clothing of Asia

Throughout the country there are many religious and regional variations in the costumes, such as Rajasthani women wear embroidered, mirrored and the tie-dye materials while in Arunachal Pradesh women are found draping home-spun long woolen skirts.

Indian dressing style is thus marked by many variations-both religious and regional; and one is likely to search for an abundance of colors, textures and style in garments of India.

Japan: The clothing of Edo period (1601-1867Ad) comes into one's mind when asked about Japanese customary clothing. This consists of the basic pieces like 'kimono', 'obi' and 'hakama'. The Japanese clothing is as simple as it is complex and elegant. The construction block of Japanese customary clothing begins with the "kimono'. During Edo period, this come to be an outer garment and was made up of all kinds fabrics. Before and During Edo period, fabric was class oriented, silk was reserved by the for the upper class people. All adult 'kimono' are cut into 8 pieces from 1 roll of cloth about 36cm, 14 inches wide and 11m long. The seams are cut level and all the time the same width regardless of the wearer's size, so cloth is left over. Any extra distance was tucked under or over the 'obi' depending on the gender. 'Kimono' is simple in build and there is no fasteners used to hold the 'kimono', close. 'Kimono' is designed according to age, communal status and gender. Just as a married woman would wear a 'kimono' made out of darker fabrics and with shorter sleeves than a young unmarried girl. Under the 'kimono', the lighter 'kimono' is called 'Nagajuban'. An 'Han-eri'(a scarf like collar) is worn in the middle of kimono and neck. Some other dresses worn by them are 'Yukatabira'(light and loose fitting robes), 'Happi'( a short coat), 'Kamishino'(two piece costume), "Kataginu' etc. "Hakama' is like pants and has 7 folds that signifies 7 human qualities such as courage, humility, justice, chivalry, honesty, loyalty and prestige. During monsoon they wore jackets made up of straw. 'Cording', 'sashes' and 'obi' are used to close dissimilar types of jackets.

All Japanese clothes are wonderfully embroidered and crafted with beautiful fabric works. Clothes are highly attractive that includes house crests, animals, bamboo, flowers, branches etc.

China: The 'Pien-fu' is an ancient two piece ceremonial garment of a tunic like top extending to the kneesand a skirt or trousers extending to the ankles. In China, clothing indicated not only class gender contrast but also ethnicity. Han Chinese and Manchu were two major ethnic groups in China who wore dissimilar cloths. The attractive band, appliquéd borders and richly variegated ornament and embroidered build is one of the unique features of the customary Chinese dress. 'He ch'ang-p'ao' is one-piece garment extending from the shoulders all the way to the heels. "Shen-I' is a cross in the middle of the 'pien-fu' and the 'ch'ang-p'ao'. It consists of a tunic and a skirt or trousers like the, 'pien-fu' but the tunic and the skirt are sewed together and essentially one piece like the 'ch'ang-pao' .Chinese clothing is not only an external expression but also an internal symbolism. Darker shades of color are beloved to lighter shades. Dresses with lighter color are worn by the citizen for daily use. Chinese associate few colors with seasons such as red stands for summer, black for winter, white for autumn and green for spring. They can be said to have fully industrialized a ideas of matching, coordinating and contrasting colors: and shades of light and dark in apparels.

Chinese clothing has a vitality of its own. It reflects a woman's modesty. Chinese customary silk clothing roughly varies with consistency which was roughly established by the era of the Yellow Emperor and the Emperor Yao and Shan. Remains of woven silk and hemp articles and ancient ceramic figures additional demonstrate the sophistication and refinement of clothing in the Shan Dynasty. Orient dresses roughly vary with a woman's figure. Mature women, in such attire can display their graceful and refined manner. In the 17thc in North China, a collarless tube shaped dresses were developed; they were the old ancestors of new dresses.

But this customary Asian Clothing is seen slowly infiltrating into the contemporary and trendy fashion of the day. Varied fashion designers have taken the approach of making dresses that citizen can wear everyday from the exotic treasures of Asian customary attire.

'Saris', Besides being the customary attire of India, has come to be an inseparable part of today's fashion. Women worldwide now are experimenting by draping this elegant designer's creation of India. In many grand parties, women from other countries also, are seen wearing a beautiful sari. Apparels like lehenga, choli, salwar kameez are already in the trend.

Black Japan printed floral Kimono wrap top, georgette geisha kimono, geisha bloom kimono top, Asia flap top and so on are some of the other imports to contemporary fashion from Japan.

Clothing of Asia varies from one country to another. More importantly in a country from one region to other it varies significantly. But if you are intimately following the trend over Varied Asian countries, you will find a inevitable pattern is followed everywhere. In one type of clothing a piece of cloth is draped which may be sari in India or kimono in Japan. The same trend is followed in Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia and other Asian countries. In other trend a loose trouser like attire for lower limbs and a closed-chest coat like things for upper part are followed. Sometimes this top goes upto knee like kameez in India or ends at belly region. citizen who are near hilly region commonly wear colorful and embroidered garments, while citizen in plain land prefer to remain simple. Asian clothing is wide, vast and has sizable ranges. Like the citizen of Asia these are colorful, smooth, silky and comfortable. And above all these are as tantalizing as Asian land.

What is 'Saving Face' in Asia?

Asian countries believe very strongly in the opinion of 'Face'. In some countries more than others, perhaps, but it is a ubiquitous feature of Asian life. Many Asians live their life by 'saving face' that is, not embarrassing oneself or another.

A excellent face saver would avoid all situations and topics of conversation which might cause embarrassment to anyone. If person notices that person else, say a neighbour, is experiencing a problem, the face-saver will pretend not to notice, unless the neighbour complains or asks for help.

Asia

In Thailand, there is an irregularity to this rule and that is in the case of a minor accident, say spilling your tea down your shirt or tripping up. A Thai would laugh. That may not sound a very nice thing to do, but actually, it gives the person who had the crisis the occasion to laugh the crisis off, thereby saving face. This is probably the origin of the sublime Thai smile as a smile is appropriate to more situations than any other response.

What is 'Saving Face' in Asia?

It is never appropriate to get angry or raise your voice, since getting angry implies that person has not done something properly and that you cannot operate your temper. Therefore, if person gets angry, it means that everybody loses face. Even onlookers, as they will feel embarrassed. We know that in the West too, think of when a couple are having a domestic seminar in public.

In Asia, it is regularly the foreigner who gets angry and shouts in public. This has given us the prestige of being noisy, rude and pushy. Some Asians will get their own back on such a person by serving him last or ignoring him altogether.

Face extends to one's communal responsibility too. There are natural or at least historical hierarchies in all societies. In many Asian countries, this depends on age, rank and wealth. Young population are meant to defer to older people. You are meant to defer to your boss or teacher or anybody with more money or a better job than you. Civilians should defer to the troops and foreigners Should defer to the indigenous population. If you don't defer when you should, You lose face for not knowing the rules. Nobody cares whether you agree with the rules, you came to their country. You defer.

On the other hand, the superior has obligations too. He should take care of the basic well-being of those who defer to him. Not everybody younger or whatever, but those who defer whom he knows. He must grant small favours of monetary loans or gifts, employment, if it's within his power and pay for meals in a restaurant. To not do so, would mean he loses face big time. He cannot afford not to, in fact.

I will conclude this article on face with an example that I think demonstrates face-saving under testing conditions. A friend of mine was having a gazebo built, a very flashy and quite costly one. The evening that the buildings was finished, his wife was watering the garden, when she noticed some materials private under bushes in the field next door. The next morning the manufacturer came back to clean up the debris and collect his payment. To everyone's surprise but one, there was a pile of excess materials neatly stacked in the orchad and when the previously-agreed bill was presented, the manufacturer offered a prompt cost discount. Nobody knew anything, except the manufacturer and my friend's wife. She told him later and he told me. The manufacturer knew that he had been caught stealing, but the wife did not want to cause any embarrassment and the grateful manufacturer rewarded her with a discount.

An Introduction to International business Cultures - Asia

Students who've completed a foreign procedure or international enterprise program of study might be eager to begin working in a foreign country. Possibly they might be a bit ambivalent or scared, too. After all, the enterprise practices of discrete nations in Africa, Europe, Asia - and even, North America - can differ vastly from American enterprise customs and etiquette.

Several Asian nations, notably China, Japan, and India, have the inherent to dramatically shape the world cheaper over the next decade. Across Asia, workers extremely skilled in computers, engineering, manufacturing, and biological sciences are revolutionizing global methods of innovation, business, and production. It will become more likely over the next decade that a enterprise college graduate will work with professionals from one or more of these Asian nations - especially if that graduate pursues a work path with many international opportunities.

Asia

Developing cultural sensitivity and awareness is very foremost for cross-cultural exchanges. This article will scrutinize some tasteless enterprise basics among habitancy of several distinct Asian nations, while contribution little-known, fun tips and facts.

Building relationships: Chinese, Japanese, and Indian international enterprise

Asian cultures tend to be much more collectivist than Western counterparts. In enterprise decision-making, the group as a whole chooses a procedure of action. An individual worker's identity is strongly shaped by the group for which he or she works. In American business, conversely, one is much less likely to see collaborative strategies - though the most recent generation of American office workers is beginning to turn this. International enterprise program graduates who work in China, Japan, or India might wish to create their group work skills added before heading abroad.

Greeting individuals with a handshake, a microscopic bow of the head, and eye feel is polite. The firm, authoritative American handshake can be overkill overseas. Touching other professionals is taboo in Asia. Personal space is important; it is not determined polite to stand very close to someone. It is all the time best to scrutinize the behaviors of your professional associates, and act appropriately.

Expect enterprise to be conducted in a slow, deliberate fashion, and rushed enterprise deals to be regarded as extremely suspect. Speak gently and clearly, and gift new ideas cautiously. Aggressive proposals or overly showy body movements will not be interpreted well. Being on time is also essential. Asia is a continent of punctual enterprise professionals, and it makes good sense to be early -- or, at the very least, on time -- to each new enterprise meeting or collaborative opportunity. It also helps to be willing and able to gently negotiate and compromise. Consensus-building trumps maverick ideas in Asian countries.

Building strong enterprise relationships is indeed sublime in Asian countries, too. American workers abroad are at a disadvantage in this regard, because they will need to overcome cultural barriers to build trust and respect. They will also need to demonstrate their enterprise skills in an honest, but not boastful fashion. Talking less and listening more are all the time wise moves when meeting a new enterprise colleague. Status and rank are of greater significance in Asia than they are in mostly-egalitarian America, so pay attentiveness to who's who in a enterprise - but, of course, get to know every person with whom you will be doing business.

Customs for Asian countries

Of course, Asian enterprise cultures will vary in their customs. In Japan, for example, gift-giving is much more appropriate than it is in China - although gift-giving can be an appreciated token if done correctly. Each Asian culture also tends to prefer some ways of greeting professionals over others. Typically, using the last name and the person's professional title (such as 'Dr.') indicates respect. Asian enterprise dress is sometimes more formal than appropriate American enterprise dress, especially since jeans and t-shirts have become more appropriate in the American post-dot-com age. Navy, black, or grey enterprise suits with conservative ties for men; and dark dress suits or formal, conservative sheath dresses and jackets for women will work well. enterprise shoes should be dark, polished, and as conservative as possible.

The presentation and reception of enterprise cards is also foremost in Asia. It is most polite to have your enterprise card printed double-sided, with the Asian language on one side and English on the other. You should offer your enterprise card with the Asian language side facing up. When accepting other enterprise cards, treat them as valuable: Study them determined to memorize names and information, and never stuff them into your pocket. For your enterprise cards, you might want to consider purchasing a hard case that snaps shut, and which can be tucked discreetly into a folder or purse after the card transfer has occurred.

Working abroad can be great fun. Americans can learn much from their Asian professional counterparts, and, by following some easy etiquette guidelines, can enjoy a most enriching cross-cultural experience.
